Bull

On Tuesday Last, Isaac James Esq., of Fremont, in this county came very near losing his life in a contest with a beligerent bull that he was attempting to drive out of a grain field into which the animal had jumped. Although armed with a pitch-fork, that he used freely after the unruly bovine showed fight, he was unable to keep the vicious Durham off, and was struck in the breast and knocked senseless. Mrs. James seeing the danger to her husband went to the rescue. As she neared the scene the animal was standing directly over Mr. James who had so far recovered his senses as to be able to warn his wife not to come too near. Returning to the barn she procured a dish of grain with which she succeeded in coaxing the animal into another field, after which she assisted her husband to the house. Mr. James is still suffering intensely and his condition is reported to be somewhat critical. It may be some satisfaction to know that the animal “came to the knife” before night of the day in which the affair happened.
