Jack O’Connor has thrilling experience in which his clothes are torn off
Jack O’Connor, proprietor of Blarney Island resort, Grass Lake, shot and wounded an enormous white owl, Wednesday at Grass Lake and thinking the big bird was disabled, he attemted to catch it alive.
The bird came out second in the battle that ensued but Mr. O’Connor did not get off easily as his clothes were nearly torn to shreds abd his arms and hands were scratched, clawed and bitten so badly taht he had to have medical treatment and was rushed to a doctor as fast as possible after the battle.
The owl measured exactly 11 feet from tip to tip of wing and stood more than four feet high. Its immense head is six inches across while its eyes are about the size of a half dollar. In fact it is by far the largest pure white owl ever seen in the lake region.
The white owl is a very rare bird in this vicinity. Their home and haunts being many hundreds of miles to the north. How this one happened to be in this part of the country is a mystery.
Mr. O’Connor will have the specimen mounted and will keep it on exhibition at the resort.
