One of the most sagacious real estate agents in the United States is a collie dog, Laddie, belonging to E. A. Strout, of New York. Mr. Strout has sold more farms than anyone else in the county, but he admits that Laddie was responsible for selling at least 100 of them.
Enthusiastic dog lovers make wild claims about the intelligence and resourcefulness of dogs, collie dogs in particular. Some stories are true and some are not. But the story of Laddie is not only true, but is one of the greatest ever paid to a dog. Here it is as told by Mr. Strout:
“Up in New York State there were a large number of farms for sale in a certain section. The choicest farm of all was advertised, “with horses, cows, furnture and complete farm equipment.”
This advertisement created little interest. A second advertisement was written and the words, “everything, even the collie dog,” were added.
We were swamped with inquiries and many took the trip to look the place over. That farm was not sold, but a number of farms in the section were. Again the place was advertised without any mention of the dog and again there was little interest, so the ad was rewritten and the words “everything included, even the collie dog” inserted.
“The first experience was repeated and many came to see the property and not only that farm but a hundred others were sold as a result.
