Horse.

An extraordinary case of cruelty to a horse was tried recently in an English Court. A Mr. Tomlinson, a plumber and glazier of York, hired a horse from Mr. Wilson for the purpose of taking his sweetheart an airing. The horse was not in good condition to make a long journey, and when jaded, the wretch of a driver beat the poor animal, running it up hill and down. For miles the road was marked with blood; the whip used was all bloody, and even the clothes of Tomlinson were stained. The horse lost two of its feet in this terrible drive. The hoofs were literally broken off, and when found, the animal was standing on the bleeding stumps. The court found Tomlinson guilty of the offense charged and inflicted upon him the full penalty, three months’ hard labor, with the costs of the prosecution, or a further months’ imprisonment. The sentence was light for such a shocking crime.
