A Tale Of Two Roosters Of Grayslake.

A late message over the Times wireless service system states that Wm. Pester recently purchased a Plymouth Rock rooster from Gus Gustafson of Hainesville, under the following conditions. If the rooster could lick Ed. Higley’s rooster, who held the welterweight championship of Miser avenue, Pester was to pay $1.50 for the bird, but if Ed’s rooster proved too much for the Hainesville scrapper. Gus was to get nothing. The two birds met last Saturday morning and Pester’s new find won by a knockout in the fourth round. He then meandered over to Joe Riley’s where he soon got on a match with the champion of Joe’s flock. Here he was again successful. Riley’s rooster taking to the tall grass and high weeds after three rounds of vigorous milling. Flushed with pride over two easy victories the Hainesville wonder started for Wm. Brandstetter’s yard. But here was where he made the mistake of his life, for Wm. Brandstreeter’s bird has long held the middleweight championship of Quality avenue and has a vicious right hook that has put many a would-be scrapper out of all desire for championship honors. Up to the sixth round it was an even thing, both contestants being covered with blood and fighting like demons. At the opening of the seventh the Quality avenue champion caught his opponent square in the neck with his famous right hook, thus separating the Hainesville champion from his breath, and at the same time separating the sporting blacksmith not only from his $1.50. but also from his rooster.-Grayslake Times.
