A Man has an arm Broken and a Valuable Horse is Killed in a Runaway.
Our city was the scene of a serious accident last Tuesday evening by which a valuable horse belonging to J. R. Dady was killed and Mr. Edward kapple had his right arm badly fractured. The particulars of the affair are substantially as following.
Mr. Dady was the owner of a fine pair of young horses and was accustomed to allow Dennis Jemison and Edward Kapple to exercise occasionally. Last Tuesday, finishing their day’s work, they hitched up the team and drove up in the north part of town. Returing along State street the horses seemed frightened at some boy’s playing football in front of T. M. Jones’ and started to run. The men were able to hold them however, and had them under control before reaching Washington street. Near Dow’s wool-working establishment another game was in progress, and, a ball passing near the heads of the still excited animals a second and more serious runaway occured. The horses crossed the bridge at a full run and without accident until Liberty street was reached. Here the cross street has been excavated and as the wagon struck the cross-walk both occupants were thrown out, Mr. Jemison striking upon his head and narrowly escaping a dislocation of the neck and Mr. Kapple striking upon his side and shoulders badly fracturing his right arm below the elbow.
The horses proceeded a little farther and near Judge Blodgett’s house ran over some sidewalk plank, one of them striking a tree with such forse as to break his neck. The horse was a valuable one, Mr. Dady having purchased him at E. S. Wadsworth’s sale of blooded stock three years ago. Although but a year old the price paid for him at that time was $205.
