Mayor Entagled in the Harness.

     Mayor Griffiths became entangled in the harness and the horse fell on him in the water, holding him under the water. Fire Chief Jacobs escaped the entanglement and swam out. He at once went for aid. The body of the mayor was found under the animal. The mayor’s body was brought to Springfield.

     The greastest ride on horseback ever done up to this time was done by Cowper Thornhill, Huntingdonshire, England, April 29, 1745, who rode 213 miles in 12 hours and 17 minutes to win a wager of 500 guineas.
