Gorrilla.

Published in the Waukegan Gazette, Waukegan, Illinois, on 10/05/1867.

Mr. Barnum, of the N. Y. Museum, who has caged in his lecture-room, [which is Connecticut for theatre] most of the respectably bad actors in the country, has purchased a gorrilla at a reputed expense of $8,000, [in reality, probably about $800.] The Chicago Post and other newspaper manageries are devoting from ten to twenty sticks of type to this gorilla. That the monkey tribe generally, should be interest in a member of their fraternity is by no means singular. The only marvel is that in describing the feats of strength of this gorrilla of Barnum’s the paragraphs should be so weak. Probably Phineas will receive on his investment somehing like a thousand percent in gratuitous advertising.
