His House Burned By Rats.

By the time Stephen Perletice, of Chicago, gets through with the Illinois Humane Society, the police and two or three insurance companies he will know enough not to set fire to any more rats. Some of the retribution that is coming to him has reached him already, for the poor beasts which he tortured ran under his house and burned it down. Perletice is an Italian. When the news of the burned rats reached the Illinois Humane society there was indignation, which rapidly assumed a practical form. It was decided to at once send a man to the house of Perletice to secure evidence and he was given orders to swear out a warrant as soon as he considered he had a case. The two burned houses were both owned by G. Tidholme and he has an idea that no one has a right to burn houses down. He also is investigating Perletice. Lastly, there are two insurance companies, both of which think Perletice’s experiment verges on incendiarism.
