Farmer In Mercer County Kills 3,435 Rodents In Two Weeks.
    The towns in Mercer, Rock Island and Whiteside counties have been suddenly overrun with millions of rats, and are doing great damage to stock and grain. One farmer, P. N. Montgomery of Preemption, in two weeks succeeded in killing 3,435 of the rodents. In spite of this enormous slaughter, his farm is still at their mercy and there appears to be no diminishing of their number.
