Rodents Have To Be Routed Before Blaze Can Be Quenched.
New York, April 27.-Firemen who were called to fight a blaze in a junk shop in One Hundred and Eighteenth street were attacked by hundreds of large rats.
So vicious was the onslaught of the rodents as they climbed the legs of the firemen and bit their hands and ran over their shoulders and helmets that the firemen turned the streams of water from the fire to the rats.
After the rats had been washed away by the water the fire was extinguished.
