Champion Talking Parrot.

Jacob, a talking parrot, owned by Grant Ridley, of Holloway Road, London, England, brings in to his master 300 pounds every year. Mr. Ridley has been offered 1500 pounds for him, but he is worth more than that.

This wonderful bird has perfect command over 4,000 words, and never puts a sentence together incorrectly; he can also talk three languages and ten dialects. What ever language or dialect you address him in he will reply to in the same tongue.

Eighty pounds was paid by the Archduchess Stephanie, widow of the Austrian Crown Prince, for a parrot which could recite the paternoster in six different languages. When the Archduchess got the wonderful bird home it could not utter a word, and the merchant who sold it was arrested for fraud. It turned out that he was a ventriloquist, and he had taught the bird to open his mouth and appear to be talking while his ventriloquism lasted.

The Sultan of Turkey paid 50 pounds for a gray parrot that could speak 250 words.
