Parrot Calls Names, Dog Fights, Owner Bitten.
An Exciting Mix-up.
Bart Tiernan Got the Worst of it-His Arm Badly Lacerated.
A parrot, a dog, a man-an oath hurled at the dog by the bird, a mixup and a general fight. This was the attraction in the James Welch saloon last night.
While it at first seems a joke, Bart Tiernan’s terribly lacerated arm is evidence that it is not.
Dog resents insult.
The saloon has a large parrot which, through it envirornment has acquired a flow of language unbecoming a Sunday school scholar. Tiernan owns a bull-dog which holds the canines of the south side in awe as it passes along.
The dog was in the saloon last evening at nine o’clock. He got near to the parrot’s cage. The green thing attracted him and he tried to get closer.
Then the parrot called him a name and the dog resented by making a jump for the cage. Then there was a mix-up.
Dog Bites his arm badly.
In the melee, Tiernan tried to rescue the parrot who kept up a screeching and yelling “murder”, “help’, etc. In trying to pull the dog off, Tiernan’s arm was bitten badly. A gash several inchs long was inflicted and a number of stitches were taken at Pearce’s drug store.
The parrot’s heavy cage preserved its life.
