Mrs. Mary Guerin Attacked by Infuriated Animal Which Broke Thru Fence.
Dog Battled With Cow.
Trampled under the hoofs of an infuriated cow, Mrs. Mary Guerin, who makes her home with her brother, John Rahling, at Wadsworth, was saved from death by Rahling’s dog, which attacked the cow and after a terrific battle between the two animals the cow was forced to retreat.
Mrs. Guerin was picking nuts along the road near her brother’s home. The cow broke through a gate in a fence of an adjoining pasture. She was not aware that the cow was charging her until the animal struck and knocked her down. The cow then trampled upon the woman seriously injuring her. Her face also was badly lacerated.
The Rahling dog was attracted by the commotion and attacked the cow, which then gave up its attack upon the woman and started battling the dog. After a terrific fight the dog forced the cow to retreat through the fence.
Mr. Rahling arrived later and helped his sister home. A Waukegan physician was called. He found that no bones had been broken but Mrs. Guerin is still suffering considerably from the affects of her unusual experience.
