A True Dog Story.

We have read a number of dog stories lately, showing the wonderful sagacity of that animal, but the following, we think can’t be beat. Mr. H. T. Field, of Woodside N. J. came in town a few days ago to reside during the winter, leaving a favorite black and tan dog at home in charge of the domestics. Last saturday, on returning up town from business, he was surprised to find that his dog Prince had arrived at the house that morning, completely tired out and hungry. Not knowing how to account for the dog’s appearance, and fearing something wrong at home, he started for Woodside, and there learned from his man that Prince had been lost two days previous. The dog had been to New York and back with his master some two or three times before, but had always traveled by rail, and how he found out the road leading from Woodside to Jersey City, what ferry was crossed, and all the manner of tracing his steps to Mr. Field’s house in West Forty-eighth street, will always remain a mystery; sufficient to say that Mr. Field now values the dog more highly than ever before.-Turf Field and Farm.
