Distressing Accident in Fremont.

Mr. Steven E. Pain of Fremont Center met with a frightful accident on Monday afternoon while at work in a field with one of Manny’s reapers. It seems that the horses attached to the reaper became frightened, when Mr. Pain endeavored to catch the leading horses by the bits for the purpose of stopping them. Missing his hold he was struck by the wing of the reaper and knocked under. The horses continued on a full run, dragging Mr. P. a distance of about forty rods before he was extricated from his perilous position. Those at work in the field with him came to his assistance as speedily as possible, and found him lying upon the ground bleeding profusely and cut and mangled from head to foot, by the sickle and gears, in a most shocking manner. He was taken to the house and medical assistance sent for as quickly as possible. Very little hope is entertained of his recovery.
