Murderers Who Threw Victim’s Body To Hogs Are Sentenced.
Jerry Graves and “Cal” Prince, charged with the murder of Mrs. Nellie Reicheldorfer on the 16th of March last, were found guilty by the jury at Marion, after less than an hour’s deliberation. The death sentence was passed upon them. Mrs. Reicheldorfer and her sister, Miss Lizzie Stafford, lived on their farm on the county line of Williamson and Franklin counties, and on the day of the murder Miss Stafford was called away from home, returning late in the afternoon. She missed her sister, and upon entering the house found that the furniture had been roughly handled and trunks broken, indicating a robbery. Miss Stafford then began a search over the premises, which resulted in finding the dead body of her sister in a hog lot with the flesh torn from the arm and one side of her face and one ear eaten off by the hogs. There was also a gunshot wound in the left breast. Circumstances pointed to the guilt of Jerry Graves and “Cal” Price, young men of Herrin, and they were arrested the following day. Soon afterward they made a confession, though they attempted to deny this at the trial just closed.
