Parrot Saves Owners Life.

Published in The Lake County Independent, Libertyville, Illinois on 05/15/1903.

Accident to New Jersey man causes bird to cry for help.

Attracted by cries of “Murder,” “Help!” “Come quick!” neighbors of George H. Andrews of Washington, N. J. ran to his house to find out the cause. They knew the cries were made by his parrot, but they never heard it scream so loud before. Andrews lay on the floor unconscious, bleeding from a great gash in his neck. He had been repairing the ceiling and had fallen from a stepladder, stricking a stove. A physician took six stitches to close the wound and said that in only a few minutes Andrews would have been dead. This is not the first time the parrot has looked after the welfare of its owner. Some years ago the house next door caught fire. The parrot’s screams awakened Andrews in time to arouse his neighbors before much damage was done.
