Some Snake Story

Published in The Waukegan Daily Sun and Gazette on December 28, 1922.

At the Bruce Museum of Natural History at Greenwich, Conn., there is quite a collection of snakes, some of which were captured during the past summer upon country expeditions of patrons of the institution. One of these contributions, a garter snake, was viewed with unusual interest as it was suspected it was about to make some interesting contributions to the museum’s colletion. This occured on August 15, when 30 tiny snakes were ushered into the world. In five days the same sort of event occurred, when presided over by the same snake 33 snakelets were added to the first brood. Five died; but the others seem in a fair way to reach adult snakehood. Toward night the mother snake coils up her body and is at once covered by her offspring.
