A Fortunate Escape.

In the history of Russia mention is made of a peasant who in quest of honey leaped into a hollow tree, where he found such a great stock that he sunk up to the breast in it; He stuck fast, and his remedy appeared but to eat himself into liberty by devouring all the honey. Two days he remained in this situation, vainly crying out for help in the thick wood, where his voice could not be heard. At length a bear came to the tree on the same errand, & descended with his tail downward; the man cought hold of his loins, which surprising the bear, he pulled with all his might to get out again; the man kept his hold, and was drawn out of his sweet confinement, which otherwise would have been his grave.
