It broke out at 12 o&#8217;clock, on Market Street, in the Livery Stable owned by Laveille and Morton. All efforts to save buildings were fruitless; and horrible to state, fifty-one horses are supposed to have been burnt with the building. Others were let loose, wild with agony and fright-their manes on fire and presenting a terrific spectacle. To relieve them from suffering, several were shot down. From the stable the fire reached the old Catholic church, which having been abandoned, was used as a warehouse.
